Great Dane Slowly Becoming Besties with Tiny Kitten Is Total Friendship Goals

It's so hard to predict whether a dog and a cat are going to get along, especially if you're bringing a kitten into the mix. When they're brand new to the family and are the tiniest member, it makes sense that everything would seem really scary and intimidating to them — especially a fully grown adult dog, who would be many times their size. That seems to be even more true of dogs like Great Danes, who are pretty big to begin with. And who knows if they'll be happy with a cat invading their turf?!

Fortunately for this Great Dane, a new kitten joining his household meant that he had a new BFF, albeit a very tiny one. And though it's clear the kitten wasn't convinced at first, they quickly became besties. This progression is too sweet to watch!

On Saturday, October 12, @finnthebigman shared this sweet footage of their Harlequin Great Dane , Finn, and the kitten they recently adopted, Art. These two couldn't be more different, but that didn't stop them from becoming the besties their parents knew they could be!

As we can see in the video, they started off slow, with Finn's mom holding him back as he watched Art get acclimated and play with his new toys. Then, they were able to get a little closer, and their relationship began with a lot of curiosity. Art wasn't convinced at first, and who could blame him — his new big brother was huge!

Slowly but surely, though, they did form the cutest bond, and by the end of the video, they were playing together and snuggling. They're the best friends that they didn't know they needed!

Not to mention the fact that Art has landed himself the best bodyguard a kitten could ask for...

Do Great Danes Get Along With Cats?

Though there's a very cute chance that Finn and Art are the cutest Great Date and cat brothers on the internet, their bond isn't an anomaly — as a breed, these dogs do often become great friends with cats who live in their households.

As is true with many breeds, Great Danes have the greatest chance of getting along with cats and kittens if they are socialized as early as possible , as Dogster points out. But just like we saw in the video above, it's also important to give them plenty of time and space to get used to each other while supervised when you first introduce them, remembering that safety always comes first.

Without taking that time and going slowly, a Great Dane might bark and chase after a cat they're just meeting for the first time, which means they won't exactly be starting off on a good foot.

But the adorable friendships like Finn and Art have do happen with the right amount of training and nurturing. It can be a lot of effort, but it's so worth it when it all pays off.
