Golden Retriever Puppy's Unbothered Attitude While Being Bullied by Cat Is Everything

There's no telling what kind of relationship you get when you combine a dog and a cat. So much of it has to do with individual personalities and the way each animal has been socialized, but fortunately, if one of the animals in question is still at an early age, there's an even greater chance they can be acclimated to living with an animal who belongs to another species... and maybe even being best friends? Eventually?

The bestie thing very rarely happens instantly, so if it's not love at first sight between your cat and new puppy, don't worry, because there's plenty of time for that to change! And if things are going the way they are between this Golden Retriever puppy and cat in the TikTok video below, well — if nothing else, you're in for a lot of entertainment.

The human who belongs to these two comical (yet adorable) animals, @morgan.bug , shared this video on TikTok on Monday, October 14. The poor Golden Retriever puppy, Penny, seems to be trying to make friends with her black cat, but... the kitty may not be the biggest fan of the new girl just yet!

The kitty is perched on the bed while the puppy is on the ground, peeking up, and though it definitely doesn't seem like Penny is the instigator here, she's the one getting slapped in the face repeatedly by her new feline friend.

These are hard slaps, too — the audible kind.

"Penny has no survival skills," their mom admitted in her caption.

To her credit, by the end of the video, she starts opening her mouth a little in an attempt to fight back, but ultimately, it looks like the cat is winning this round.

    Why Do Cats Slap?

What's happening in this video is often described as "slapping," and it's a pretty common behavior. Most often, it happens between two cats, but it can also happen between a cat and a dog (obviously).

The Spruce Pets points out that if your cat has a bit of a playful side, they may just be trying to engage in a little play fighting ! If this is the case, they will have their claws retracted the way the kitty in the video's are — the intent of this kind of slapping is to play, not to harm.

However, if your kitty is fighting with their claws out, they probably intend to hurt whoever they're slapping, so that's something you may want to discuss with your vet to prevent anyone from getting hurt — human or animal. I know from experience that cat scratches really hurt!

Fingers crossed Penny and her cat get along soon. Maybe they'll end up having a love/hate sibling relationship.
