Have you ever experienced a severe weather event that resulted in an extended power outage? If you have, you know how long the days can feel while waiting for the electricity to return. The joy of flipping on a light is a simple luxury we yearn to have again.

Yet, our canine companions view these times through a unique lens. Instead of dwelling on what they lack, they find joy in each moment. Their cheerful perspective can inspire us, helping us see the silver lining in these difficult situations.

Watch how these Golden Retrievers helped their parents see the upside of spending days without power in this video from October 14:

Dogs have a knack for finding the bright side. These Golden Retrievers are happy to have a new view from their front door, even if it happens to be plywood. LOL! Wesley and Winnie (@ westhegoldenmess ) are also eager to taste any hurricane snacks and refrain from judging if we eat more than we should. While we might not find driving around for hours looking for gas to be a good time, our pups beg to differ as the best road trip buddies. No AC? No problem! That means the windows can be opened, letting in the smells and sounds from outside. Even the destruction in the backyard is no big deal when it means more sticks and obstacles to play with. And when we think we can't take another moment, they cover us in cuddles and give us the assurance we need to get through another day. What would we do without them?

Ways to Help Dogs Feel Less Anxious During Storms

While some dogs can sleep soundly through intense thunderstorms, others tremble with fear at the first drops of rain. To help nervous dogs be more at ease, experts often recommend exercising them before the bad weather begins. This can help tire them out and keep them calm when the storm arrives. Providing them with an environment where they feel safe is also essential, and for many dogs, this might be their crate. My French Bulldog mix finds solace in our walk-in closet, nestled under my long dresses, and sometimes takes refuge under the bed. Some people also report great success using snug jackets and wraps that act like a comforting embrace.

Although it's great to know these Goldens were unfazed by the storm and an extended power outage, hopefully, their parents won't have to go through it again anytime soon. Five days without AC in Florida is hard, even with a positive outlook.
