Sphynx Cat's Comedic Antics Lead Mom to Rethink Holiday Decor

As pet parents can attest, our beloved animals sometimes make holiday decorating a little tricky. Both dogs and cats can find those brightly colored bulbs and shiny lights quite alluring. So, sometimes, we must skip the festive decor for their safety and the preservation of our keepsakes.

Thankfully, our animals often warn us about how they’ll behave before we assemble the tree. If Sphynx’s love of the faucet is any indication, it’s probably best for Mom to avoid the festive season this year.

See what has her concerned in this video shared on October 11:

What a character! Although it’s unclear what Lasso (@ nashvillenudies ) is trying to achieve, he’s doing it passionately. Perhaps this inquisitive Sphynx is trying to get a drink or a little water to play in, or maybe he is trying to sharpen his fangs on this round piece of metal. Whatever the reason, it’s safe to assume he would act similarly to ornaments on a Christmas tree. So, it’s wise for his mom to skip it, and it’s likely something she once learned the hard way. That’s how I discovered that round ornaments resembling balls are unsuitable for a household with dogs. Luckily, those light-up ceramic trees can always be positioned behind glass for a cheery, chaos-free glow.

Holiday Decorations That Pose Dangers to Cats and Dogs

    • Items like tinsel, ribbons, or string-like decorations are attractive to cats in particular. If swallowed, they can cause digestive blockages that may require surgery.
    • Glass ornaments that break easily should also be avoided. They can damage the pause, and if swallowed, these broken fragments can cause internal bleeding. Food-based ornaments with harmful ingredients should also be hung with caution.
    • Holiday plants, such as poinsettias , holly, mistletoe, and lilies, are toxic to cats and dogs. While poinsettias are mildly poisonous, ingesting mistletoe, holly, and lilies can lead to more severe symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, and organ failure.

Lasso’s antics amused pet parents. Viewer @spriggansadventure responded, “That faucet must’ve looked at him wrong, though! I blame the faucet.” That could be, and there are two sides to every story. Viewer @trickytasteslikeshit reported, “One of mine does this too, as well as window handles, doorknobs, etcetera. But my plastic pink tree has already been set up (I love Christmas).” That’s understandable. Viewer @tbilcke advised, “You should get a vinyl sticker tree!” It’s better than nothing!

Although this mischievous cat might prevent his mom from putting up the tree again this year, he brings plenty of spirit of his own. Despite their challenges, they are always the gifts that keep on giving.
