Mom's Sweet Gesture Toward Goldendoodle to Ease Fears at Vet Is Touching Hearts

There are a lot of fun parts about being a dog parent, but unfortunately, visits to the vet certainly aren't one of them. Even if your dog isn't sick or hurt and you're there for a routine check up, appointments aren't exactly something that we look forward to if our dogs are freaked out by even entering the building — no matter how much you love your vet. If your dog is stressed out about the situation, there's a very good chance that you, too, are stressed out about it!

But even though you can't communicate to your dog that everything will be okay in human language, there are other ways to get your message across, as we can see in this TikTok video. In this moment, this Goldendoodle just needed his mama.

On Thursday, October 17, @kat_braden shared this video to show what happens when she takes her Goldendoodle pup , whose name is Oliver, to the vet: He needs a little extra comfort and support, as many of us do during the tough moments in our lives.

Though the vet was just checking Oliver's heartbeat with a stethoscope during the video, his mom was sitting right by his side, holding his paw just as someone would hold a dog's hand. How sweet is this?

It did seem to work, too, since Oliver was pretty calm in this video, which his mom wrote should serve as "your reminder to emotionally support your dog @ the vet."

As if any of us would ever dream of doing anything but offering that support to our favorite four legged friend!

How to Comfort Your Dog at the Vet

Though paw holding definitely seemed to work for Oliver and his mom, it's not the only way to help your dog feel safer and more confident during a vet visit (and in the end, it will make everyone's lives easier, including yours).

One vet's office recommends bringing distractions and treats along to help with the process, including for the time you spend in the waiting room. A favorite toy and offering positive reinforcement for setting foot in the office can go a long way. Remember to keep your own stress about the visit in check, too — they can sense our emotions, so putting out calm vibes of your own can help.

More frequent visits can help familiarize your dog with the place, too. Once you take away that element of "the unknown," some of their fears may just disappear.

And of course, if your dog's anxiety seems to be causing them a great deal of stress, it's not a bad idea to reach out to your vet ahead of time to see how they can help, either.

Best of luck at your next visit! If Oliver can get through it with a little bit of paw holding, hopefully, your pup can too.
