Starting for varsity in any sport is a rare achievement for a freshman.

However, freshman Kai Tschen has taken the reins and is making a name for himself on the Desert Mountain High School varsity football team.  A freshman standout, Tschen’s first season with the Wolves has already started on a high note for the young wide receiver.

Tschen leads the team in receiving yards per game as of this writing and already caught two touchdowns in early-season games. With plenty of time left in the season, Tschen shares his motivations, inspiration and expectations.

    Name: Kai Tschen

    Year at School: Freshman

What I like most about football: The work ethic you need to have to be able to succeed and the family you make a long the way.

My best sports memory: Scoring my first two touchdowns as a freshman on varsity.

My worst sports memory: Dislocating my shoulder.

What I’m excited about as this season starts: The success our team is going to have this season and to do it all with my brothers.

Favorite professional sports player: Marvin Harrison., Jr., rookie wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals.

My interests and hobbies: I like to lift weights and getting work in by myself overtime. I also like to listen to music and hang out with my friends.

My best habit: Looking out for my friends and overworking myself.

The trait(s) I admire in others: A kind, caring heart that will be there for you whenever you need them.

People who inspire me: My dad inspires me to be better, and Marvin Harrison, Jr., is my role model that I model my game after.

    My favorite sport: Football.

My favorite sports snack: Protein cookies or body armor.

My personal motto: “When writing your story, don’t let anyone else hold your pen.” This means that your life story is on you so make the best of it.
