Five golfers place in Top 10 at Indiana Women’s Golf Association State Amateur Championship
Five Hamilton County golfers reached the top 10 of the Indiana Women’s Golf Association State Amateur Championship, which took place this week at The Players Club in Muncie. The three-day, 54-hole event ran from July 22 to 24 at the Woodland Trails course. Westfield’s Samantha Brown was the county’s top finisher, placing fourth with a five under par score of 211.

Lake Monroe’s algae blooms will worsen without prevention
This story has been updated. Algae blooms foul the taste of Bloomington’s drinking water most summers, but some prevention can lessen the effects of the blooms. Indiana State Parks’ Deputy Director of Stewardship Ginger Murphy said blue-green algae thrives in Lake Monroe when nutrient-rich fertilizer and waste wash into the lake. She said algae blooms can produce toxins that endanger people and animals. She said Lake Monroe is safe for visitors provided they shower after swimming, but dogs should stay out of Indiana lakes.

Indianapolis police officers shot, expected to recover
Update: IMPD noted in an email sent Monday morning, that police have not yet made an arrest relating to Friday's night shooting, which sent one officer to the hospital. The officer is expected to remain in the hospital for several days as he recovers.
