SUMMARY: Amory's animal shelter is currently facing severe overcrowding issues, housing around 90 animals in a temporary facility significantly smaller than its usual one due to tornado damage. The shelter is doubling up animals in kennels, which can lead to problems like disease spread and aggression. Fawn Sighted at the Vicksburg Post Office
VICKSBURG, Miss. – A baby deer has been seen wandering around outside the Vicksburg Post Office since Tuesday. It is unclear whether the fawn has been abandoned. According to the National Wildlife Federation’s blog: “There is a strong probability that you did not find an abandoned fawn. Female deer hide their newborn fawns in tall grass or brush and move some distance away to feed to avoid drawing predators to their offspring. With the proliferation of deer in suburban areas, sometimes this happens right in our own yards. The fawn simply waits in hiding until its mother returns. Soon, the fawns will be strong enough to follow the does and run from predators, and they no longer need to spend hours alone in hiding.”

Originally from Indiana, Rebecca Byrd has lived in Gulfport since 1980 and has been the bookkeeper at Northwood Church for 21 years. In February of 2012, I had a benign tumor removed from each breast. In November of 2019, I had an abnormal mammogram. The MRI showed it was a “well-circumscribed oval anechoic cyst; probably benign.
