Local basketball team brings home championship

Construction of Center for Medically Fragile Children underway
Children with complex medical conditions will soon have a place where they can live and their families can get the training needed to care for them at home. Construction of the Alyce G. Clarke Center for Medically Fragile Children is now underway in a wooded lot off Eastwood Drive in Jackson. The first and only such facility in Mississippi, the home will serve patients younger than 19 who need skilled care because of the complexity of their medical conditions.

Reigning Region 23 Champions, Pearl River volleyball announces 2024 schedule

SUMMARY: Pearl River Community College's volleyball coach, Haley Chatham, announced the 2024 schedule for the reigning NJCAA Region 23 Champions. The Wildcats will host 10 home matches in Shivers Gymnasium. They start the season on Aug. 22 against Coastal Alabama-South and participate in various tournaments throughout September. The schedule includes conference matches and non-conference games, with the regular season concluding in late October. Key returning players include Peyton Hoffmayer and Madi King. Tickets for the games are cashless and available online for $8 in advance. All matches will be livestreamed for free at PRCCMedia.com.

The heat that’s been cooking the region over the last couple of days is expected to last through tomorrow as this center of high-pressure system sitting in the Great Plains continues to bake the region. Heat advisories have been issued for Southern Mississippi and Southern Louisiana, while excessive heat warnings have been issued for areas north of Jackson, Mississippi, as well as the New Orleans Metro area. These weather statements are in effect through at leat Friday evening. By this weekend, a mid-level trough is expected to increase our rainfall chances, but due to the high-pressure system, only slight cooling is expected.
