LCSD Career Tech Center installs new tech to teach safety lessons

SUMMARY: Lowndes County School District has installed heavy equipment simulators at its Career Technology Center, funded by a $75,000 Equip-MS grant. These simulators will help train students in operating machinery such as bulldozers and dump trucks across various shop classes, including auto, construction, welding, and industrial maintenance. Susan McClelland, a representative, expressed excitement about providing students experiences that previous generations wished they had. The simulators also benefit younger students by allowing them to practice and prepare for future equipment operation when they are old enough.

Gunn joins Hinds County Economic Development Board
The former Speaker of the Mississippi House is now wearing two economic development hats. In January, Philip Gunn was named to head the regional Connect West group that is trying to bring industries and businesses to Clinton and western Hinds County. Now, in addition to his responsibilities with Connect West, Gunn has joined the board of the Hinds County Economic Development Authority.
