Attention parents-to-be: Nameberry has released its top 10 baby naming trends for 2025!

From selecting names that reflect the natural world around us, to identifying names that are inspired by the worlds beyond us, Nameberry has been one of the premier sites around for choosing baby names . If you're eyeing a trendy name for your baby in the coming year, here's what the latest naming trends and some of their examples mean according to Nameberry.

    Fast Fashion

The first trend is all about, well, trends, with parents looking to whatever is getting the most attention in the current social zeitgeist for inspiration for baby names. These monikers are about right now, in this moment, and importantly, are self-generated, as in, parents are making them up to suit their own tastes and goals.

The names often reflect a fusion of other names or concepts. According to Nameberry, some examples of so-called "Fast Fashion" baby names include:

    • Hollyn: This girl's name means "holly + lake, beautiful; forest land; point of the land".
    • Lakelyn: This is an originally created name in America.
    • Riven: A boy's name, meaning "to split".
    • Luxton: This is a boy's name that means "Lugg's town; town of light."

If anything this particular trend should empower parents to create a name unique to their baby and family journey.

    Global Americana

While this trend may sound like a contradiction, these baby names blend parents’ desires to honor certain cultural roots with an American twist. For instance, the name Xochitl is from the Nahuatl tradition, but the Global Americana baby naming trend also incorporates names that are more commonly heard in the U.S.

    According to Nameberry, examples include:

    • Jordi: A Catalan variation of the name George, which means "farmer."
    • Luca: An Italian variation of the names Luke and Lukas, meaning "man from Lucania."
    • Oona: This is a girl's name, meaning "lamb."
    • Lachlan: This is a boy's name, meaning "from the fjord-land."

    Baby Names (Literally)

Some parents grapple with the idea that a baby hasn’t quite grown into their name, and worry their chosen moniker is too grown up for a sweet, chubby, little bundle of joy. Perhaps as a reaction to that concern, some moms and dads are employing names that are inspired by babies, themselves.

Nameberry notes that to fully embrace this trend, you’ll need to think of the name as a whole, so that the middle name truly complements the first name.

    Examples from Nameberry include:

    • Rio Rose: Traditionally a boys name, meaning "river or place of the cherry blossoms"–and Rose is traditionally a girls name, meaning "rose, a flower".
    • Klarity Doll: Klarity is a variation of the girl's name Clarity, which means "the quality of being clear"– and Doll is traditionally a boy's name, meaning "foolish, mad, strong, ditch".
    • Sonny: This is a boy's name that means "son."
    • Lively: Identified as a girl's name, meaning "full of life, energy."
    • Cub: This is a boy's name with English origins.
    • Blossom: This is an English girl's name that means "to bloom."

    Country Rebrand

Country artists like Morgan Wallen are going mainstream. And pop stars like Post Malone are going country. With countrycore being so prevalent in today’s culture, baby names naturally have started to reflect that trend.

Nameberry points out that previous country names like Denver and Dakota were purely place-based, and a bit more literal. The site offers some other more creative and even slightly hokey-sounding country names like:

    • Abilene: A boy's name that means "grass."
    • Huck: This boy's name is short for Huckleberry, as in the Huckleberry Finn character.
    • Waylon: A boy's name meaning "cunning, craft."
    • Loretta: This girl's name means "baby laurel."

    Safe Haven Names

The road to having a baby is not easy for many parents—not to mention the normal everyday difficulties that add stress. Safe Haven baby names reflect a desire for peace and serenity.

    Nameberry gives examples, such as:

    • Bliss: A girl's name meaning "intense happiness."
    • Dove: A girl's name meaning "dove, a bird."
    • Mecca: This is an Arabic name, traditionally for a boy, meaning "holy city, temple, place of great importance."
    • Om: A name given to boys, meaning "creation."
    • Shalom: A name of Hebrew origin that means "peace."
    • Trust: Given to a boy, with the same meaning.
    • Meadow: A girl's name that points to nature.

    Femininomenal Names

Nameberry notes that this trend embodies both super-girly sounding names that have grown in popularity along with the reimagining of Barbie as a feminist icon. It also includes edgier, more attention-seeking monikers inspired by queer feminist music star Chappell Roan.

According to Nameberry, examples of Femininomenal names include:

    • Echo: A name from Greek mythology meaning "echo or sound."
    • Cosette: A French name meaning "little thing."
    • Lavender: Of English origin, meaning "purple flower."
    • Emerald: Meaning "green."
    • Ophelia: This is a Greek name that means "help."

    Landscape Names

Nature names seemingly never go out of style, but 2025 sees this trend going in a very literal direction. We’re talking names inspired by actual natural features– and Nameberry gives examples like:

    • Canyon: A boy's name of Spanish origin.
    • Field: A boy's name meaning "dweller in the open country."
    • Ridge: A boy's name meaning "elevated body or structure."
    • Dune: A name of English origin meaning "sand hill."
    • Tide: A boy's name related to the rhythm of the ocean.
    • Wake: A boy's name that means "watchful, vigilant; emerge from sleep."

    Otherworldly Names

The notion that we’re all connected is going intergalactic, at least when it comes to baby naming trends for 2025.

According to Nameberry, this trend is all about capturing an out-of-this-world vibe with a baby name such as:

    • Aura: A girl's name meaning "soft breeze."
    • Cosmo: This a boy's name that means "order, beauty, universe."
    • Ever: This means "always, constantly, eternally," and is traditionally a boy's name.
    • Lyra: A girl's name of Greek origin, meaning "lyre."
    • Haze: This is traditionally a girl's name.
    • Mars: A girl's name that references the red planet and can also mean "god of war."

    Croc Names

Much like Crocs , themselves, these names may not carry mass appeal. But as anyone who's ever worn a pair knows, it's all about comfort over aesthetics.

The Croc Name trend notably looks to the past for inspiration, and examples from Nameberry include:

    • Enid: A girl's name of Welsh origin meaning "life, spirit".
    • Clyde: A boy's name of Scottish origin.
    • Ines: A girl's name of Portuguese origin meaning "pure, virginal".
    • Joan: A boy's name meaning "God is gracious".
    • Morris: A boy's name meaning "dark-skinned".
    • Mildred: A girl's name of English origin meaning "gentle strength".
    • Wilbur: A boy's name meaning "resolute, brilliant".

    Gen Z Names

With the dawn of a new generation of parents comes a new crop of baby names. While millennials may have favored names featuring the letter “X” (think Max and Xavier), “Z” is the new consonant on the block.

According to Nameberry, Gen “Z” names you’ll likely hear more and more are:

    • Azure: A boy's name meaning "sky blue".
    • Chozen: This is a variation of the name Chosen given to boys.
    • Ezra: A boy's name of Hebrew origin meaning "help".
