My husband and I have always loved to cook, and we’ve included our kids in the process since they were small. Now that they’re 14 and 16, we’ve moved past the kid-safe plastic knives and started teaching them with the cooking tools and utensils they’ll need and use when they move out and have their own kitchens.

Cooking with our teenagers has been a joy because it’s a fun way to spend time together as a family. We’ve discovered some useful cooking tools that help make their cooking experiences enjoyable. From high-quality cookware sets that will last years to dishwasher-safe mixing bowls and food containers , here are 10 products we use when cooking with teens.

Totally Bamboo 3-Piece Bamboo Cutting Board Set

    $18

We use these bamboo cutting boards for everything from chopping vegetables to creating cheese and charcuterie boards. My teens love them because there are enough pieces in the set to divide and conquer when chopping carrots, onions, and other veggies. I love them because they hand-wash easily and look pretty on my kitchen counter.

These cutting boards have received over 6,000 five-star ratings from Amazon shoppers. “They are attractive and useful and easy to clean and conveniently sized,” gushed one shopper, adding they’re an eco-friendly option, too.

    Amazon

    $60

    $54

We received our Oxo mixing bowl set as a wedding gift almost 20 years ago, so our three-piece bowl set is older than our teenagers. The set is durable and has non-skid bottoms to keep them steady on the counter—a feature my teenagers appreciate.

“Very strong and well made set of bowls,” raved one Amazon shopper.

    Viretang Cutting Boards

    Amazon

    $20

    $14

While we love our bamboo cutting boards, these cutting boards are our go-to surface for cutting things like raw meat. They’re dishwasher-safe, so I feel confident knowing they’ll be clean the next time my teens cook. Plus, they come in a pack of three and are highly praised by Amazon shoppers for being sturdy and simple to use. “Each board has a non-slip bottom to keep it in place while I'm using it, and there's a convenient handle on each board for easy lifting and moving,” praised one shopper.

Pyrex 3-Piece Glass Measuring Cup Set

    Amazon

    $26

    $23

Over the years, I’ve purchased other, less-pricey measuring cup sets from different brands. Still, I always return to Pyrex for its durability (the measurement markings are still on the cups even after multiple trips through the dishwasher). While they are glass, meaning they can break more easily, they’re incredibly sturdy and even microwavable.

These Pyrex measuring cups have received more than 53,000 five-star ratings on Amazon. “Great set and a must-have for any kitchen,” wrote one reviewer who uses them daily, adding they’re great as a wedding gift or for “kids moving out of the home.”

    $70

While we’ve owned knife sets with a wider variety of knives in the past, we’ve simplified our collection as our teenagers learn to chop and dice in the kitchen. This three-piece set from Cutluxe is our current go-to knife set, as it’s sturdy and sharp enough for our kids to do the pre-dinner chopping efficiently.

“I was looking for a set of knives of good quality without breaking the bank,” said one Amazon shopper, adding that the knives “have a good weight” and are “well balanced.”

Hell’s Kitchen Hybrid 5-Piece Cookware Set

    Amazon

    Amazon

    $350

Recently, we purchased a new cookware set to give our teens the best chance at success in the kitchen. We chose the Hell’s Kitchen Cookware Set because it’s a hybrid blend of stainless steel and non-stick ceramic that holds heat well and doesn’t allow food to stick to it. This simple set comes with three pots and pans and two universal lids, and so far, we’ve had all the cookware we need to make dinners on our stovetop.

One Amazon reviewer calls the pans an “excellent-quality set,” praising them for their “flat, even bottom with no wobbling” and how they “distribute the heat evenly.”

    Yeboda Glass Food Storage Containers

    Amazon

    $27

    $21

I ordered one of these six-piece glass food storage sets several years ago and have since ordered an additional one. These food storage sets come apart easily and clean well in the dishwasher. Plus, I feel good about teaching my kids to use glass food storage containers as a more eco-friendly option when possible.

“They are a perfect size for me and my adult children,” raved one parent. They’re also on sale, so you can grab them for just $21.

    Keouke 12-in-1 Vegetable Chopper

    Amazon

    $30

    $18

After seeing this 12-in-1 vegetable chopper used by social media chefs, I ordered one and put it to work in my own kitchen. Now, my teenagers use it, and we all love that the chopper makes cutting fruits and veggies a breeze. Plus, it’s safe to toss in the dishwasher.

“The vegetable chopper I purchased has been a game-changer in the kitchen,” gushes one reviewer. “It makes chopping vegetables quick and effortless, saving me so much prep time.”

Hamilton Beach Digital Toaster Oven Air Fryer Combo

    Amazon

    $210

We use our Hamilton Beach Toaster Oven Air Fryer for everything—from roasting meat and vegetables for dinner to reheating leftover pizza. Our teens have become well-versed in how to cook with this air fryer, which does everything from air-frying frozen fries to broiling up some crispy chicken wings.

“It is much more convenient than using the oven and even cooks more thoroughly, too,” praises one five-star reviewer.

Umite Chef 8-Piece Silicone Cooking Utensil Set

    Amazon

    $20

It’s important to teach teens how to properly care for cookware and kitchen appliances without scratching them, so we rely on silicone utensils to set them up for cooking success. This eight-piece utensil set has everything we need to cook with, from spatulas to ladles, and can go straight from the stovetop to the dishwasher when it’s clean-up time.

“These are perfect for my new non-stick pans,” exclaims one Amazon shopper, adding the utensil set is “attractive, well made, easy to clean, a pleasure to use, and I don't have to worry about damaging my new pans.”
