Clear skies, warm temps expected July 4 for Saginaw Bay area, Thumb Region
After a chance of rain to begin the week, July 4 is expected to be clear, sunny and warm for the Saginaw Bay area and Upper Thumb regions. According to the Detroit/Pontiac NWS, there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday before clear skies and warm weather overtake both Midland and Bad Axe for the Fourth of July.

There are times when something needs to be done and the best way to accomplish that is by doing it yourself. That is what the Elkton Village Council did in October of 2023, when they approved paying the cost of EMT training in order to have more EMTs for the Elkton ambulance service. Ambulance Coordinator Beth Swartzendruber says there were 16 runs in May with 12 of them non-billable.

Bad Axe's Boyle makes All-State second team
The Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association has announced its all-state soccer teams. In Division 4, Bad Axe’s Mikaela Boyle earned a spot on the second team. Boyle scored 19 goals and had 20 assists during her senior season, which helped pave the way for the Hatchets to win their sixth consecutive Greater Thumb Conference championship.
Marijuana ordinance turned down by Bad Axe City Council
The Bad Axe City Council voted 5-2 to turn down the city's proposed marijuana ordinance at the July 1 city council meeting in front of a full gallery. Prior to the vote, there were several people who spoke up, both in favor and against the ordinance, with the council also having to rescind its decision from the previous meeting to put the ordinance on the ballot for the voters to decide.
Leona L. Tasker
Leona L. Tasker 90 of Paris Twp. passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at UH Portage Medical Center. She was born June 15, 1934 in Swanton, MD to Gilbert S. and Virginia (Harvey) Turner. Leona was a member of the First Church of God in Edinburg. Survivors include her children Carolyn Lee, Richard Tasker, William (Cindy) Tasker, David (Katie) Tasker and Ray (Stacey) Tasker, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and siblings Betty Sims, Roscoe Turner and Robert Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dannie, son James Tasker, sister Shirley Kerns and daughter in law Tammy Tasker. Calling hours and services were held on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Reverend Brad Edder officiated. Private burial was in Hawley Cemetery in Paris Township. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the First Church of God in Edinburg.

Fireworks will be lighting up the night sky in the next few days. So where will your nearest display be this year?. Fireworks will be set off in Algonac at 10 p.m. on Friday as part of the community's annual Pickeral Festival. People can watch the colorful display, presented by the Algonac Lion's Club, at Algonac Riverfront Park, located at 1130 St. Clair River Drive.

Man, woman injured in crash on M-25
Two people were injured on Friday evening when a driver failed to yield to cross traffic and was struck by another vehicle in Sanilac County. According to a press release from the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office, a 911 caller told Sanilac County Central Dispatch operators that a two-vehicle injury crash had occurred around 6:30 p.m. Friday on North Lakeshore Road (M-25) near Custer Road in Sanilac Township. Deputies along with Port Sanilac Fire/Rescue and Sanilac EMS responded to the scene.
