Ahead of Conference USA Media Day in Texas this week, the league announced their three preseason players of the year. One player was chosen from the offense, defense, and special teams respectively. Two of those awards went to members of the defending champion Liberty Flames, while one went to a member of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The Flames were chosen as the favorites to win CUSA over the weekend, while the Hilltoppers also received two first-place votes.

Woodburn man found guilty on rape charges
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Woodburn man has been found guilty on charges related to a rape case. Last week, Jerry Ward, 42, of Woodburn was found guilty of two counts of first-degree rape, criminal attempt to use a minor in a sexual performance and two counts of first-degree attempted unlawful transaction with a minor – victim less than 16, according to Commonwealth’s attorney Kori Beck Bumgarner.
