Park County Sheriff’s Office addresses Fentanyl-related incidents
The Park County Sheriff’s Office responded to an infant death investigation on May 27, 2024. The Park County Coroner’s Office has determined the cause of death was a lethal fentanyl overdose. Lance Avey, a 39 year old male was arrested on June 11 for the death (child abuse) of his infant.

Nineteenth century headstones reset in Price/Tyler cemetery
On the beautiful Spring morning of May 16, Steve Plutte of the Park County Cemetery Board, accompanied by Linda, met with Shawnee History Board members Rhonda Dusatko, Chris Eller, and Kacie Eller (also from Park County Cemetery Board) at the Price/Tyler cemetery in Shawnee to reset seven nineteenth century headstones in concrete rectangular forms that had previously been made and stored with the headstones at the Charles Tyler Homestead for the past two years.
Colorado Broadband Office visits Fairplay
Colorado Broadband Office (CBO), an initiative formed through the efforts of Governor Jared Polis, met in Fairplay on Jun. 13 to discuss a large, ambitious project. CBO’s goal by 2027 is to connect 99% of Colorado to high-speed broadband. CBO has already connected several parts of the state to high-speed internet services, but Park County has not yet been served. Over the next six months to a year the CBO team will be working alongside interested providers and county government officials to expand internet access in various areas throughout Park County.
Town of Fairplay recognizes retiring Park County Manager Tom Eisenman
Mayor Just, the Board of Trustees and Staff of the Town of Fairplay recognized retiring Park County Manager Tom Eisenman for his 25 years of distinguished service at their June 3, 2024 regular meeting. Just and those in attendance gave Eisenman a round of applause, thanked him for all he has accomplished, and extended best wishes to him as he nears the end of his career with Park County.
