Crawford County Memorial Hospital Contributed Over $60 Million To State’s Economy
A study conducted by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) found that Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison has contributed over $60 million to Iowa’s economy in 2023. Iowa hospitals throughout the state invested $21.3 billion, and Crawford County Memorial Hospital made up $63.7 million. Over $30 million stayed in the local community as wages and benefits from employment, $34.4 million to be more precise. The hospital supported 559.2 job opportunities, which makes up 8.5% of all individuals employed throughout Crawford County, are at the hospital. Crawford County Memorial Hospital is also a huge supporter of Denison and surrounding communities, with $2.6 million allocated for charity care to provide necessary health services to individuals who cannot afford it, serving 4.4 thousand individuals through this program. Conference Mediations for Charles City, Decorah, Waverly-Shell Rock Wednesday (07.17)
The futures of what will eventually be three former Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) schools could be decided by state officials starting Wednesday (07.17). Charles City, Decorah and Waverly-Shell Rock (WSR) are all headed for mediation in separate efforts to join new conferences starting with the 2025-26 school year. Moves precipitated with the NEIC set to dissolve after the 2024-25 school year after current league members New Hampton, Cresco-Crestwood, and Waukon have opted to join the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) starting July 1, 2025.

West Fork Advances to State Softball Tournament with Shutout of Hudson
The West Fork softball team advanced to next week’s state tournament with a 3-0 shutout of Hudson in the Class 2A Region 6 final in Sheffield Monday night. That was one of 12 strikeouts by Warhawk junior pitcher Libby Trewin who picked up the win for West Fork. Trewin pitched seven innings in the shutout of Hudson to advance to state.
