City-County Health District Offering Cholesterol Screening July 25
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (CCHD) – Did you know that high cholesterol doesn’t have any symptoms? Many people don’t know their levels are high. The only way to know whether you have high cholesterol is to get your cholesterol checked through a blood test. Your test results will show your cholesterol levels. Total cholesterol and HDL (good) cholesterol are among numerous factors your health care professional can use to predict your lifetime or 10-year risk for a heart attack or stroke. Your provider will also consider other risk factors, such as age, family history, smoking status, diabetes and high blood pressure. Tests can also find signs of high blood glucose (sugar) levels, which are important to check as nearly 1 in 2 adults have pre-diabetes or diabetes.
