What's coming next to Marshalls, HomeGoods in Parsippany? A new 'indoor adventure' park

PARSIPPANY — The final vacancy at the old Kmart site on Route 46 will soon be filled.

Seven years after the department store closed, Urban Air Adventure Park has announced plans to take over the spot at the Westmount-Arlington Plaza Shopping Center. The new venue is under construction next to the Marshalls and HomeGoods that took over the rest of the former Kmart property this spring.

Dallas-based Urban Air bills itself as "the world’s leading indoor adventure park operator." The chain offers more than 20 activities at its locations, including trampolines, mini golf, go-karting, slides and laser tag, according to its website.

Messages weren't immediately returned by Urban Air and its Texas-based parent company, Unleashed Brands . But Urban Air has established a website for the Westmount venue that says it's "coming soon to Parsippany, NJ!" and cites the same address used by Marshalls and HomeGoods. A spokesperson from Garden Commercial , owners of the shopping center, confirmed an opening date has not been set yet.

Those stores opened in April, after moving from their previous locations at the Morris Hills Shopping Center, a few miles to the west on Route 46.

The Parsippany Kmart closed in 2017 as parent company Sears Holdings struggled to stay afloat. The township's revised master plan, adopted in 2020, called for the space to be demolished in favor of more than 300 new housing units, but that plan was abandoned.

Urban Air offers memberships with unlimited visits for a monthly fee. The soon-to-be Parsippany location has yet to release details of its membership program, but the cost varies with each indoor park. Memberships are sold online only.

Urban Air also hosts field trips, group and team-building events, birthday parties and private rentals. It also sells gift cards and tickets online .
