The Nature Coast Fishin’ Report: The mad dash for scallops is on
Pasco’s scalloping season opened a week ago and per usual, it’s crazy out there. The weekend was particularly crowded, with hundreds of boats on the flats between New Port Richey and the southern boundary of the scalloping zone (the Anclote Key lighthouse). Those on the water between now and the close of the season Aug. 18 should be extra cautious and watch for divers and stay well clear of anchored boats. Scallopers are required to have dive flags, but there are always a few who don’t follow the rules.
