Pasco Fire Department, Franklin County Fire District 3 battling large fire near Tri-Cities Prep High School

PASCO, Wash. -- The Pasco Fire Department battled a large fire between Broadmoor Boulevard and Interstate 182 Friday afternoon.

The fire started just before 12 p.m. Friday, June 21, in the area of Broadmoor Boulevard and Interstate 182, across the street from Tri-Cities Prep High School along Saint Thomas Drive.

The Pasco Fire Department and Franklin County Fire District 3 fought the blaze along Saint Thomas Drive. Pasco Police provided traffic control to allow fire crews to fight the blaze without interruption.

The blaze created thick smoke which could impact visibility in the area. Firefighters fought the blaze in 90 degree heat and breezy conditions.

Our crew on scene said firefighters were digging a perimeter around the fire and putting out more than 10ft tall flames. Most of what was burned was dry vegetation.

The fire appears to be contained as of 2:46 p.m. and crews may still be on scene cleaning up hotspots.

Pasco police and fire are on the scene of a large fire burning near I-182 and Road 100/Broadmoor Boulevard.

Drivers may encounter smoke across the interstate, and some traffic re-direction in the area is possible as fire crews work to get the fire under control.

This is an area with a lot of construction going on, including significant road projects, but it appears that the fire itself is in an empty lot across from Tri-City Prep Catholic School.  St. Thomas Drive is closed to drivers.
