Camden and Pasquotank residents have a new way to receive up-to-date emergency alert notifications.

Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management began operating its all new PASQCAM Alert notification program on Monday, May 20.

Examples of emergency information the new mass notification system can provide users include extreme weather forecasts and events, evacuation and shelter-in-place or lockdown notices, missing person and public health alerts and power outages.

Residents can sign up for the free notification system at the following web address: pasqcam.app.regroup.com/contacts.sign_up. The web form allows residents to sign up to receive notices via email or mobile text message or both.

Residents who were using Emergency Management’s CodeRed alert system were automatically transferred to PASQCAM Alert and should have received notification of the transition.

According to an Emergency Management news release, PASQCAM Alert “harnesses the advanced technology of Regroup, a leading provider of emergency and mass notification solutions. PASQCAM Alert empowers citizens to stay informed and connected during emergencies, critical events, and special event operations through instant alerts and notifications delivered via multiple communication channels such as text messages, emails, voice calls, social media and more.”

At their April 1 board meeting, the Pasquotank commissioners unanimously agreed to a three-year $14,500 contract with Regroup. The money will be paid annually in amounts of $4,800 using grant funding.

The item was approved following motions by commissioners Lloyd Griffin and Sam Davis.
