Deadline Approaching for SBA Working Capital Loans Due to Drought
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Francisco Sánchez Jr., associate administrator for the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the Small Business Administration, today reminded small nonfarm businesses in 11 Arizona counties and neighboring counties in New Mexico of the May 28, 2024, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by drought in the following primary counties that began Sept. 19, 2023.

South32 announced this morning that it will construct a nine-acre complex in the city of Nogales to house the remote operations center for its Hermosa mining project. Formerly referred to as IROC (“integrated remote operations center”), the facility will now be called ‘Centro.’ Centro will be located off the I-19 near the Mariposa Industrial Park, with construction expected to begin by the end of the year.

Sonoita Races Canceled
The Sonoita Fairgrounds will be quiet this year on the first Saturday in May. Breaking with a tradition that started in 1915, the Santa Cruz County Fair and Rodeo Association Board voted on March 19 to cancel the 2024 Sonoita Races, which in recent years have been held at the same time as the running of the Kentucky Derby.
