Coluccio Foundation hosts event for mental health awareness

The Christopher A. Coluccio Foundation held its 3rd Annual Ping Pong for Positivity event at St. Joseph’s University in Patchogue, marking a day filled with camaraderie and support for mental health awareness. With over 35 teams competing on 20 tables across three divisions, nearly 100 spectators gathered to cheer on the players, alongside 50 volunteers. Supported by half a dozen mental health organizations, the event raised $10,000 to further its cause.

The foundation’s mission, rooted in celebrating and memorializing Christopher’s spirit, extends to serving and educating the community. With a focus on supporting those grappling with mental health, depression and thoughts of suicide, the foundation also seeks to foster open communication between parents and children on these crucial topics.

 

Local Marine awarded payment-free vehicle for exemplary service

Former U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Sarmiento was honored for his military service with a payment-free vehicle through the Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Transportation4Heroes program. In collaboration with Wells Fargo and South Shore Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Corporal Sarmiento was selected to receive this gift after applying to MWSF’s Transporation4Heroes program.

His military career began at Camp LeJeune when he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines. Following deployment to Fallujah, and Ramadi, Iraq, he exemplified bravery and resilience in the face of adversity, earning a Combat Action Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal and more.

In addition to providing vehicles, MWSF supports combat-wounded veterans and Gold Star spouses through family and financial mentorship connected programs.

 

LI Cares honors King Kullen with warehouse aisle street sign

In recognition of local supermarket chain King Kullen’s generosity and commitment to battling food insecurity within the region, Long Island Cares has designated its Hauppauge warehouse main aisle as King Kullen Place.

According to Tracey Cullen, King Kullen vice president of corporate strategy and initiatives and the great-granddaughter of King Kullen founder Michael Cullen, the new sign follows a recent donation by King Kullen to Long Island Cares’ “Giving Guitar” naming opportunity, which includes displaying a King Kullen plaque on a Giving Guitar created by the food bank in honor of songwriter Harry Chapin’s mission to end hunger on Long Island.



NYU Langone serves LI commuters with NYC ambulatory care center

The third floor of a historic building that once housed the offices of Sears, Roebuck & Co. is now home to NYU Langone Health’s new 18,000-square-foot medical facility. Known as NYU Langone Medical AssociatesPenn District, the medical center is across from Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station, offering easy access to Long Island commuters as well as the Hudson Yards residential area.

With 15 providers in internal medicine and family medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, podiatry, spine surgery, sports medicine, and urology as well as 25 exam rooms, it also boasts three dedicated procedure rooms and imaging services.
