    Paterson Police Apprehend Kidnapping Suspect Following Early Morning Search

    PATERSON, NJ - The Paterson Police Department apprehended 33-year-old Junior Nunez early Friday morning, following a frantic overnight search prompted by reports of a kidnapping and carjacking near Piercy Street and Holsman Street just hours earlier.

    According to a statement, at approximately 10:39 p.m. on Thursday Paterson Police were alerted to a kidnapping in progress near Piercy Street and Holsman Street. Witnesses reported that a 34-year-old woman and her two-year-old son had been forcibly taken at gunpoint by the suspect, identified as Nunez, a resident of Paterson. The situation escalated quickly, prompting the issuance of an Amber Alert and the mobilization of the NJSP Missing Person Unit to aid in the search.

    Authorities worked through the night, intensifying efforts to locate Nunez and the victims. At approximately 6:00 a.m. on Friday, the suspect and victims were found in the vicinity of Presidential Blvd and Temple Street. Both mother and child were confirmed to be in good health, and Nunez was taken into custody without incident.

    Nunez faces a series of charges related to the incident, including First Degree Kidnapping, First Degree Carjacking, and multiple firearm offenses. The legal ramifications for these charges carry substantial penalties under New Jersey law, with potential sentences ranging from five to 30 years in state prison.

    Upon his arrest, Nunez was processed by the Paterson Police Department and is currently awaiting further legal proceedings.
