    Paterson Police Department Announces Leadership Changes for Greater Efficiency

    PATERSON, NJ - The Paterson Police Department (PPD) has restructured its leadership team within the Field Services Bureau. These changes are aimed at enhancing the department’s operational efficiency and better positioning it for future growth, the department said.

    “These appointments represent a change in leadership philosophy,” Officer in Charge Isa Abbassi said. “Making sure that all of our executives have clearly defined roles and responsibilities will allow us to better serve the city of Paterson while ensuring accountability.”

    The following assignments and designations have been made:

    Captain Michael Saginario has been designated Commanding Officer of the Field Services Bureau. In his new role, Capt. Saginario will oversee all forward-facing operations of the Paterson Police Department, including the Patrol Division, Traffic Division, and Emergency Response Team. He previously served as the Executive Officer of the Field Services Bureau and has been with the PPD for more than 28 years.

    Captain George Vasquez will serve as the Citywide Operations Commander, reporting directly to the Officer in Charge. Capt. Vasquez will oversee all patrol and investigative deployment strategies to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. With a 30-year tenure at PPD, he was previously the commanding officer of the Special Operations Division.

    Captain Stephen Iacuzzo has been named Commanding Officer of the Patrol Division, responsible for the uniformed patrol force in Paterson, which operates 24/7. The Patrol Division handles 911 calls, community engagement, directed patrol, and quality of life enforcement. Capt. Iacuzzo, a 25-year PPD member, recently graduated from the University of Chicago’s Policing Leadership Academy.

    Captain Louis DeLucca has been assigned as the Executive Officer of the Patrol Division, serving as second in command of the largest segment of PPD’s sworn personnel. Capt. DeLucca, a 30-year PPD veteran, was previously with the Professional Standards Division and served as a duty captain within the Field Services Bureau.

    Captain Steven Rooney will take on the role of Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Division, overseeing specialized units such as the Traffic Unit and Emergency Response Team. Capt. Rooney has been with PPD since 1999 and served as a team leader and commander in the Emergency Response Team before his recent role as a patrol captain.

    Captain Scott Eason has been designated Executive Officer of the Investigative Services Bureau. As second in command of all investigative functions, Capt. Eason will ensure timely coordination of investigative units and information sharing within the Field Services Bureau and with other law enforcement partners. Capt. Eason has been with PPD since 2000 and recently served as a patrol duty captain.

    With these new roles and designations, PPD aims to streamline its functions and provide more effective supervisory oversight on day-to-day operations, officials said.
