PATERSON, NJ – Paterson officials are requesting $1.3 million in state aid from the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund to address deteriorating road conditions across the city. This funding will be allocated to the 2025 Road Resurfacing Project, which targets key streets such as Chamberlain Avenue, Burlington Avenue, and 20th Avenue.

City engineers, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works, have identified these streets as critical for resurfacing due to their poor conditions. The proposed improvements aim to enhance both safety and traffic efficiency.

“I’m very thankful that this project is finally moving forward,” Second Ward Councilman Shahin Khalique said. “I’ve been advocating for these repairs for over 10 years, and it’s gratifying to see it come to fruition. I’m hopeful that the work will commence soon after approval.”

“I want to thank the Mayor and the Department of Public Works for considering North Fifth Street,” Councilwoman-at-Large Dr. Lilisa Mimms said. “This is a significant win for our residents. I also urge the administration to update us on the status of Governor Street, as we need to address the lower section of that road.”
