Three-Alarm Brushfire Underway in Orondo; Estimated at 40 acres
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is reporting an active brushfire on Hwy 97, near Beebe State Park. The blaze stands at approx. 40 acres. Per the Orondo Firefighters Association, this is a three-alarm blaze. Traffic control is in place. It is not yet clear which agencies were dispatched to the fire, but as of 1:00 p.m. local time, air support was en route.

Oregon man sentenced for stealing dead parents’ benefits for more than a decade
A man who drew nearly $200,000 in benefits intended for his parents long after their deaths was sentenced in federal court to home detention and probation. Paul Douglas Carey perpetuated the scam for more than a decade after his parents had died and lied to federal agents when caught, falsely claiming his mother and father were still living, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel K. Sowray.

Richland, Wash. — A break-in that resulted in several guns stolen took place in Richland early Wednesday morning.
