BOSTON — Two temporary nurse staffing agencies, one in Quincy and the other in Waltham, will each pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in penalties and restitution to the state for charging long-term care facilities for services at rates that exceed the legal limit, according to Attorney General Andrea Campbell's office.

Under a settlement agreement reached with the attorney general's office, Quincy-based Intelycare , will pay $236,000 in restitution to affected long-term care facilities and approximately $270,000 in penalties, which will be added to the state's Long-Term Care Facility Quality Improvement Fund.

The second agency, connectRN of Waltham, will pay $43,000 in restitution to affected long-term care facilities and $65,000 in penalties to the improvement fund.

The maximum service rates each agency exceeded are set by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

Intelycare and connectRN have also agreed to update their software and practices to ensure compliance state regulations.
