No permit? No problem. Beaches relax rules after Labor Day. And free parking, too!

Summer is coming to an end, but it doesn’t mean you have to stop going to the beach.

In fact, the passing of Labor Day weekend opens up access to some of the South Shore’s more restrictive beaches.

Some places require a fee for non-residents, while others give out-of-towners the chance to buy a beach sticker to park during the season. A few towns keep sticker access to their residents only.

    Now: No permit? No problem.

It's worth noting that at least two public beaches on the South Shore still require resident stickers year-round. Those are Sandy Beach in Cohasset and Gray’s Beach in Kingston.

There are eight beaches that have been open to all the entire summer with needing a permit. But here are some beaches in the region where you need neither a beach sticker nor pay a fee to park now that we're in the off season.

    Scituate beaches

Typically, you’d have to have a resident or non-resident beach sticker to park at Scituate’s public beaches during the season, including Minot, North Scituate, Sand Hills, Egypt, Pegotty and Humarock.

But, while you wait for your chance to buy an in-season sticker for next year, free parking at the town’s beaches begins after Labor Day, according to the town.

    Duxbury Beach

The town of Duxbury offers non-resident beach stickers, but for oversand parking only. Otherwise, you must be a resident to have a sticker.

But Artie Fortune, Duxbury’s beach operations manager, said that the resident lot at Duxbury Beach is free and open to the public after Labor Day. This resident lot is at the end of Powder Point Bridge and is operated by the town.

This is not to be confused with Duxbury Beach Park, which is privately managed to the north and accessed through Route 139 in Marshfield. There, anyone can park for a fee.

Oversand parking still requires a town sticker, though.

    Plymouth beaches

Plymouth stops checking stickers at beaches and ponds after Labor Day. There’s also no longer a fee to park, the town said.

These locations include Plymouth Beach, Long Beach, White Horse Beach, Fresh Pond, Hedges Pond and Morton Park.

    Marshfield beaches

During the season , non-resident parking is available at Brant Rock and Rexhame beaches for anywhere between $15 and $35, depending on the location and day. But all beaches in Marshfield are free to park at after Labor Day.
