Week 1 South Shore high school football scoreboard and highlights

Thursday marked the kickoff of Massachusetts high school football .

Middleboro got the gridiron action started against Apponequet on Thursday and 18 area games follow on Friday night. Cardinal Spellman heads to Nantucket for the lone Saturday game in Week 1.

Thirteen South Shore teams are off this week, including Thayer Academy and Milton Academy, which kick off the season later in the month.

Thursday, Sept. 5

Middleboro 14, Apponequet 7

The Sachems outlasted the Lakers in a defensive battle. Junior quarterback Colton Ward threw his first varsity touchdown to Wyatt Goyette in the fourth quarter. Caiden Carriuolo got the scoring started for Middleboro with a 59-yard touchdown run.
