There was an impressive showing of support for the nominees in our field hockey Midseason Player of the Year polls, and the results are in.
On The Patriot Ledger side, 48,923 votes were cast for the 40 nominees. On The Enterprise side, 160,270 votes were cast for the 17 nominees. You can find background on all the nominees in our recent Players to Watch story.
Notre Dame Academy's Emily Coughlin finished atop the Ledger polling with 15,907 votes (32.5 percent of the total). The senior captain is a standout forward who is committed to the University of New Hampshire for field hockey.
Carver's Leah Sturtevant was runner-up in voting among Ledger players. She drew 9,823 votes (20 percent of the total). Duxbury's Avery Bridgett was third with 6,483 votes (13.3 percent of the total). Also receiving significant support: Marshfield's Aubrey Finn (3,607 votes) and Hanover's Samantha Baker (2,297 votes).
On The Enterprise side, Oliver Ames' Kayla Kenney was the winner, receiving 53,578 votes (33.4 percent of the total). The junior forward is a speedy threat for the Tigers, who were off to a 5-4-2 start to the season. Coach Alexandria Sylvia says Kenney "creates plays and scores from anywhere."
Middleboro's Sydney Nickerson was runner-up in voting among Enterprise players. She drew 41,782 votes (26.1 percent of the total). Middleboro's Olivia Hartman was third with 35,195 votes (21.9 percent of the total). Also receiving significant support: Whitman-Hanson's Brooke Kreckler (16,860 votes) and Southeastern's Tessa Luke (5,465 votes).
