Peekskill Speaks to Peekskill Walks
Among the big takeaways in a recent survey by the community organization Peekskill Walks were concern about reckless driving and support for Esther Place. “We knew that people were concerned about reckless driving and speeding,” says Conor Greene, co-founder and executive director of Peekskill Walks. “The survey responses solidified that.” Three quarters of survey respondents said that speeding and reckless driving is an issue in their neighborhood. “This is a serious alarm that is being sounded,” said Greene. “If there’s any number in the survey that City Hall needs to look at, it’s this number.”

NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is seeking volunteers to serve on the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) to fill two member positions. The TAC is responsible for advising the City Council on parking and transportation-related matters as well as guiding and reviewing the preparation of transportation and parking plans and programs. Among the functions and duties of the TAC are to evaluate and make recommendations on various issues, including but not limited to parking, traffic, and transportation, including alternative transportation modes such as pedestrian and bicycling.

CARMEL – A vision to convert the former Mahopac Hospital building into the new Carmel Police Department headquarters is advancing after the town board voted to purchase the building that most recently served as the administration offices for the Mahopac School District. County takes ARPA money back from Philipstown water district project
CARMEL – The county legislature’s Audit and Administration Committee approved a plan to redirect $369,670 of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money originally earmarked for the Garrison Landing Water District in Philipstown. The money will be reallocated to an ARPA-eligible county project after learning the Garrison Landing project did not meet the standards set by the federal government. Legislators were briefed on the need to redirect the money by Finance Commissioner Michael Lewis.
