PRIOR LAKE, MN – Summer is great for recreational activities. The Recreation Manager of Prior Lake, Angie Barstad, has to lead the Recreation Department to redefine summer in Prior Lake. As the summer of 2020 was called The Lost Summer, Prior Lake Recreation Department has several engaging, fun, and daring programs for 2021. One of which is the Youth Program.

Missing the summer fun and memories is not an option for Barstad. The manager does not want the residents of Prior Lake to not have fun community activities, especially children. With that in mind, the Recreation Department has designed programs for this summer while adhering to the COVID-19 health safety guideline.

In collaboration with The Three Park District, Outdoor Survival Skills Camp is conducted at Lakefront Park. Children aged 8 to 13 will get to learn the importance of outdoor survival skills through building shelter and fire, navigating on outdoor spaces, and geocaching activities.

The Recreation Department also collaborates with Snapology to bring Kinderbots and Amusement Park Engineering. With Kinderbots, children will get to know robotics and building simple robot models. As in Amusement Park Engineering, children get to apply simple engineering concepts in building their own amusement park.

Collaborating with Revolutionary Sports, the city holds baseball and soccer class to develop talented children. The class will include any necessary technique used in both sports. In addition to this collaboration, there will be a track and Adventure Course to build the confidence level for the young talents.

The Recreation Department also has Muddy Buddy Run, where children have to overcome various obstacles to finish a race. One of the obstacles is a mud pit. However, the last obstacle will clean the mud off, so they get back clean.
