If it's the final weekend of the Summer for you, Mother Nature doesn't seem to want to cooperate. From rip current risks at the beaches from Ernesto, to rain chances, hazardous weather is possible for many. This is the same system that brought severe weather to the Plains and Midwest earlier in the week. The area of low-pressure responsible will move through the Great Lakes on Friday and into New England on Saturday.

Storms Return to the East Coast This Weekend

A slow-moving frontal boundary will drop south across the region today and tomorrow, triggering showers and storms today and an area of rain on Tuesday. This boundary extends west to east roughly across Lake Ontario this morning. An area of rain and storms over Canada has moved out over the northern waters of Lake Ontario. This area of precipitation is expected to stay out over the lake until it passes east of the Finger Lakes.

A pattern similar to the one from late June to mid-July which brought flooding and damaging winds to parts of the northern Plains and Midwest is poised to return next week, AccuWeather meteorologists warn.

We have arrived at the doorstep of the weekend and we are going to have one last day of sunshine and low humidity before things change. Satellite loops show an upper trough to the northeast over Atlantic Canada. That is slowing down the next upper trough and cold front that is moving across the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. This leaves is in sunshine for much of the day and temperatures will be topping out in a range of 80 to 85. Dew points will remain reasonable in the mid to upper 50s. No rain is in the forecast for today and overnight. Humidity levels across the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic will begin rising as a southerly flow develops along the East Coast bringing in low level moisture. Saturday morning lows will be in the 60s for the most part. Now as far as the weekend goes, if you have to pick one day I would go with Saturday over Sunday.

It will not be raining all the time but there will be some downpours and a few heavier thunderstorms to deal with during the week ahead.

While Hurricane Debby moves across Northern Florida today, we are sitting in the steam bath today though it isn't quite as bad as we saw last week. Today over Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England it is going to be a hot humid day. Thunderstorm activity however is probably going to minimal unless you are north of Route 84. This is where the Storm Prediction Center has elevated risk for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and tonight. The area covers much of Northern Ohio, Northern Pennsylvania, much of Upstate NY and interior New England as far north as Maine. As for temperatures here, sunshine should take highs into the upper 80s and lower 90s this afternoon. We will throw in the chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm but activity should be far less than the last several days.
