Iowa Department for the Blind director Emily Wharton resigns as she battles kidney cancer
The director of the Iowa Department for the Blind is resigning as she battles kidney cancer, she said Tuesday. Emily Wharton has served as the department's director since 2016. Prior to that, she served as the department's technology director. Wharton, who is blind, also is a former graduate of the department's Iowa Blindness Empowerment and Independence Center.
Hannibal City Council removes parking from part of Edwards St.
HANNIBAL, Mo. — A portion of a narrow street that has long caused troubles for emergency vehicles traveling through the area will no longer have street parking. At Tuesday’s meeting, Hannibal City Council approved a request from Councilman Charlie Phillips to make Edwards Street between Fulton and Guernsey a no parking zone.

Three men arrested after reports of shots fired Tuesday in Macomb
MACOMB, Ill. — Three men were arrested Tuesday after officers with the Macomb Police Department responded to the area of Albert and Piper for a report of shots fired. Officers arrived on the scene at 12:16 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, and determined no one was injured and the suspects had fled the scene. Officers began collecting evidence and searched the neighborhood for the suspects’ vehicle. MPD officers eventually found the vehicle and developed information that the suspects were in a Macomb residence and likely still armed.
