One-Year-Old cat With Life-Threatening Postpartum Complications Receives Critical Care at Local Humane Society
On July 8, a 1-year-old female cat was brought to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County after being discovered by a community member near an apartment complex dumpster. The cat, now named Marzipan, was lethargic and unable to move, suffering from severe mastitis, a painful infection of the mammary glands that can lead to life-threatening sepsis.
South Tacoma Historic Property Walking Tour on July 18
TACOMA, Wash. – Community members are invited to join staff from the City’s Historic Preservation Program on a walking tour highlighting the history of the South Tacoma Way Mixed-Use Center on July 18. The walking tour will include a presentation of the historic property survey findings for the South Tacoma Way Mixed-Use Center and will usher in the conclusion of that project, which began in September 2023.
Welfare check on an unresponsive man ends in arrest
BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A welfare check on an unresponsive man near the Guide Meridian ended in an arrest. Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says that fire crews were called after the man was found lying in the bushes near Best Buy on Saturday, the evening of July 13. The man woke up and immediately began acting aggressively towards the crewmembers. He pulled a glass bottle out of his pants and threw it at his feet before threatening to pull out a gun.
Design review next week for ‘U-shape’ development that will add 120+ new homes to Broadway’s Bait Shop block
A project that will reshape a northern block of Broadway and demolish the more than 100-year-old structure home to Bait Shop and TRIBE Fitness to make way for a new six-story, 122-unit apartment building with retail and three live-work units plus underground parking for more than 100 vehicles will come before the East Design Review Board next week in what could be the project’s final step in the city’s public design process.
