Westfield Police: Phone Scammer Tricked Resident Out of Nearly $1,000 Last Week
WESTFIELD, NJ — A resident of Boynton Avenue reported being defrauded out of about $990 on July 11 in a phone scam, Westfield Police said Wednesday. “The victim received a notification via the computer as a Microsoft warning that financial information had been compromised,” Sgt. To avoid scams like this one, Walsh suggests looking up the contact information for wherever the caller claims to be from and contacting that company directly. “Never buy gift cards to pay a company when they make specific requests for said form of payment,” he said.
