Comedy Night at The Ritz Theatre
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – A night of laughter is coming to Hinton as the Ritz Theatre hosts a comedy show on August 22. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m. Headlining the event is Seattle-based comedian Andrew Rivers, who has opened for Christopher Titus and is currently on tour with Steve Hofstetter. Rivers has also released several comedy specials, including one on Dry Bar Comedy. Opening for Rivers is Luke Severeid, a Pittsburgh comedian who recently reached the semifinals of the San Francisco & Seattle Comedy International Comedy Competition. Local comedian Chase Jobe will host the evening. Jobe, a Hinton native, has been making a name for himself on the comedy circuit and was a finalist in the Caravan Comedy Contest in Louisville, Kentucky, earlier this year. Airstream contingent comes to Hillsville
For the 16th consecutive year, a group of approximately 70 airstreamers visited Hillsville from all over the country. The large group from Region 3 of Airstream Club International were in Hillsville visiting the Historic Carroll County Courthouse and the Carroll County Historical Society Museum before enjoying lunch at the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home. The airstreamers (a group of RVers who share a mutual love of the brand) were in the area for the Annual Old Fiddlers’ Convention in Galax, but also to spend a day in Hillsville. ...
Lowell Woman Sentenced for Drug Smuggling and Money Laundering Involving Massachusetts and Virginia
A woman from Lowell has been handed a 21-month prison sentence following her guilty plea to charges involving drug distribution and money laundering within Massachusetts and Virginia. According to an announcement by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Sathtra Em, 37, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV for conspiring to distribute MDMA and buprenorphine and to launder the proceeds of her crimes.
Carroll allots $3.5 million for new pool construction
The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has voted to move forward with the construction of a new swimming pool at a cost not to exceed $3.5 million.
