Rockland pickle sandwich is a big 'dill': TikTok-famous dish lands at Pearl River deli

The pickle sandwich, the viral sensation that recently catapulted a Long Island deli to TikTok fame, has come to Rockland County.

Luigi O'Grady's Deli & Catering in Pearl River has been offering it for a week and, thanks to their own TikTok and word of mouth, the sandwich's popularity is growing. Owner Michelle Worob said they recently sold 75 in one day which is highly unusual for one sandwich.

"Every day is a little bit more," she said.

So what's a pickle sandwich? It's basically whatever kinds of meats and cheeses you'd normally get on a sandwich nestled between two hollowed out garlic dill pickles. "Whatever you want on it, we'll do it." she said.

And that includes hot and cold meats. Their "Chickle," a chicken cutlet sandwich on a pickle (ask for No. 5), is having its own viral moment with 28,000 views and counting.

    All sandwiches are $10.

Worob had the idea to sandwich layers of meat between two pickles years ago ‒ she even bought the containers ‒ but life got busy and the idea languished. It wasn't until she heard of the viral pickle at Seven Brothers Gourmet , that she decided to offer it. That pickle sandwich, which has been viewed more than 4.3 million times, has been an item at the Oceanside sandwich shop since January, but it wasn't until food influencer @gabbyparmesan posted about it that it really took off.

This reporter, who loves a good kosher pickle on the side (and is up for any social media challenge) was impressed with the piled high turkey, lettuce, tomato and Swiss that was stuffed into the pickle and secured by two toothpicks. Just be warned that it's a three napkin (at least!) lunch as the pickle juice definitely drips.

Worob, who said people like the option to avoid bread (and also try something fun and new), also owns O'Grady's Castle in Pearl River. She's owned the deli, which she opened with her mother Kay O'Grady, since 1997.
