PUC REDUCES REQUESTED INCREASES FOR RATES FROM MONTANA-DAKOTA UTILITIES. PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission significantly reduced rate increases for both South Dakota electric and natural gas customers served by Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. at their regular meeting in Pierre today, Aug. 13, 2024. The commission’s actions came after a year-long analysis of two MDU requests: to increase base rates for electric service to customers in its South Dakota territory by approximately $2.98 million annually or approximately 17.3%, and to raise natural gas rates by approximately $7.42 million annually or 11.2%.

Watertown to Conduct Mosquito Spraying Tonight, 8/15
{KXLG - Watertown, SD} The City of Watertown’s Mosquito Control Program has announced plans to conduct aerial spraying operations tonight, August 15th, 2024, to combat a surge in the adult mosquito population. Spraying is scheduled to begin after 9:00 p.m. in designated areas of Northwest and Northeast Watertown, north of 3rd Avenue North and west or east of Broadway.
Two-Vehicle Accident in Watertown Sends One to Hospital
{KXLG – Watertown, SD} A two-vehicle crash occurred last night, August 14, 2024, at approximately 9:25 PM at the intersection of 1st Ave SW and 1st St SW in Watertown. Watertown Fire Rescue responded and found both vehicles stopped in the roadway. Crews cleaned up a minor debris field and transported one individual to Prairie Lakes Hospital for further evaluation.

Temperatures will slowly rise heading into the weekend. Highs look to remain in the 80s for most of us with a few 90s possible out west. This weekend is looking mainly dry for now, but some isolated showers and storms will be possible by Sunday.

Triumph Motorcycles has made history on the closing Sunday of the Sturgis Rally when veteran flat track racer “Slammin’ Sammy” Halbert won the inaugural American Flat Track AdventureTrackers race during the class debut at the Sturgis TT run through the middle of town. Fittingly, the very first Sturgis Rally was actually a race held on August 14, 1938, with 9 competitors. Fast forward to August 11th, 2024, where 9 racers once again lineup on the starting grid of a new race. Hot on Halbert's heels was the five-time World Enduro Champion, Iván Cervantes, cementing Triumph’s moment in history.
