Mainly quiet weather over the next few days
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -- For Friday, we’ll see sunshine returning gradually from west to east across the area as temperatures warm up into the mid 80s west and lower 80s east. Temperatures will slowly rise heading into the weekend. Highs look to remain in the 80s for most of us with a few 90s possible out west. This weekend is looking mainly dry for now, but some isolated showers and storms will be possible by Sunday.

Triumph Motorcycles has made history on the closing Sunday of the Sturgis Rally when veteran flat track racer “Slammin’ Sammy” Halbert won the inaugural American Flat Track AdventureTrackers race during the class debut at the Sturgis TT run through the middle of town. Fittingly, the very first Sturgis Rally was actually a race held on August 14, 1938, with 9 competitors. Fast forward to August 11th, 2024, where 9 racers once again lineup on the starting grid of a new race. Hot on Halbert's heels was the five-time World Enduro Champion, Iván Cervantes, cementing Triumph’s moment in history.

SDSU Extension to feature emerald ash borer management at 2024 Dakotafest
South Dakota State University Extension will return to Dakotafest in 2024 with educational displays and on-site experts showcasing more than 10 topics. Dakotafest is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT on Aug. 20-22, 2024, just south of Mitchell at 2300 E. Spruce St. The annual agricultural trade show brings together farmers, ranchers and agricultural industry professionals from across the region. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the gate.

Two fentanyl dealers sentenced in Rapid City after fatal overdose
RAPID CITY, S.D. - Two Rapid City women convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death have been sentenced. Christina Sanchez, 25, and Katey McGruder, 35, took part in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy in Rapid City. McGruder and her husband Curtis Cummings received large amounts of fentanyl from a source in Colorado and brought the fentanyl back to Rapid City, where it was further distributed by Sanchez and others.

The Mitchell couple have volunteered as beer servers for more than 25 years and are stationed at a stand along the third-base side at Cadwell Park. They serve at every game, have become tourney regulars and always greet beer drinkers with their friendly smiles.
