Local sports recap for July 10, 2024

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Patrick Raupp of Arlington Heights shot a 5-under 67 to grab a three-stroke lead after two rounds of the Renewal By Andersen Junior Open at Pekin Country Club on Wednesday.

The final round of the 54-hole American Junior Golf Association tournament is Thursday. Raupp has rounds of 68 and 67 and sits at 9-under for the tournament, three shots ahead of Nick Vilela of Washington, Missouri.

Bella Ransi of Eldorado Hills, California and Emily Zhang of Katy, Texas share the lead in the girls division of the tournament. They are at even par through 36 holes.

Colin Kemp of Pekin, who just graduated from eighth grade, is one of the youngest players in the field. He missed the cut after a pair of 77’s but looked at the week as a great experience.

“I think it’s a big learning week for me playing against all these better (players),” said Kemp. “And seeing where my game stacks up against the best competition.”

Kemp will be a freshman at Pekin High School in the fall.
