Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Providence Division

    2024-08-17

Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in the Providence Division.

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, shortly after 3 p.m., Providence Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury in the 7700 block of Fairview Road. Upon arrival, they found a 2014 Jeep Wrangler with front-end damage and a heavily damaged 2009 Kawasaki EX650 motorcycle. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene. Sadly, the motorcycle's operator, 22-year-old Jacob Todd Woolery, was pronounced deceased at the scene by MEDIC.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr. Woolery was traveling west on Fairview Road when the driver of the Jeep, a 16-year-old juvenile, pulled out to make a left turn, leading to the collision. The impact of the crash ejected Mr. Woolery from the motorcycle. The juvenile driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by MEDIC.

Mr. Woolery’s next of kin have been notified of his death. The investigation remains active and ongoing. As more information becomes available, updates will be provided by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Division. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is encouraged to contact Detective Mercedes at 704-432-2169, Ext. 5.
