ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Town of Penfield revealed plans for the proposed Costco development that would be on Rt. 250.

News 8 learned in early July that a sketch plan application was submitted to the town for review. The town posted the sketch plan on Thursday.

According to the letter of intent, the proposed development includes a 170,000-square-foot store, a pickleball facility, four apartment buildings with 26 units each, and commercial buildings ranging from 3,000 to 8,000 square feet. The sketch plan also requests re-zoning of the properties.

The sketch plan also reveals the proposed street layout and circulation patterns — Penfield Square Road will be extended northward along the west side of the development, the east side will connect to Rt. 250 and Sweet Corners Road, and will have a highway access plan to Rt. 250.

When news first broke out about the proposal, there were mixed viewpoints. Some love the location, but others shared concerns about the traffic that the development could bring to the town.

The next board meeting to discuss the development will be Thursday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m.

A spokesperson for the Town of Penfield declined to comment, and provided the following statement.

“At this time, we are not conducting interviews related to the project. We want to allow initial review by the Planning Board prior to making any comments beyond what we have already shared.”
