Robert Towne, Oscar-winning writer of ‘Chinatown,’ dies at 89
NEW YORK — Robert Towne, the Oscar-winning screenplay writer of “Shampoo,” “The Last Detail” and other acclaimed films whose work on “Chinatown” became a model of the art form and helped define the jaded allure of his native Los Angeles, has died. He was 89.
Police identify victims of Friday’s central Pa. fiery four-vehicle accident
TURBOTVILLE — Men from Lewistown and Williamsport have been identified by state police as the victims of a fiery four-vehicle accident in Montour County on June 28. Pronounced dead at the scene were Homer S. Rice, 55, of Lewistown, and Robert W. Sholder Jr., 39, of Williamsport, two of the drivers.
Franklin County borough mayor enacts burn ban for next 3 weeks
A burn ban is in effect for Chambersburg until late July, according to a release from Mayor Kenneth Hock and the Chambersburg Police Department. The burn ban, which is in effect until July 22, came at the recommendation of Chambersburg fire chief and EMS director Dustin Ulrich due to “drier than normal temperatures” and a lack of rain in the forecast, the police report said.
