I’ve got to have better wisdom and discernment about when to use that energy and that wasn’t the time.”Sirianni said he wasn’t persuaded by owner Jeffrey Lurie or anyone else to make that statement.“Mr. Lurie and I talk every time after the game,” Sirianni said. “I haven’t talked to him yet today. I know how supportive Mr. Lurie has been supportive through everything. We have the best fans in the world. There’s no place like this and they show up and show out no matter where we are — Brazil, Arizona, it doesn’t matter, New Orleans.”That’s true, but they also aren’t shy about expressing their disdain when things aren’t going well and they can have quick trigger points. The Eagles’ offense was booed off the field after their first two series failed to produce any points and the team was booed off the field after the Browns tied the game just before halftime with a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown.Sprinkled among the boos were chants of “Fire Nick, fire Nick.”Sirianni went on to credit the fans for helping to create two false-start penalties after the Browns got to within three yards of scoring a touchdown that could have tied the game or perhaps even given Cleveland a chance to win it with a two-point conversion.“That forced a field goal,” Sirianni said. “That fourth-and-eight (penalty) and then they don’t go for it on fourth-and-13, who knows how that goes. And so our fans brought the energy, they brought the passion, they brought the juice.”Sirianni had a more defiant attitude about his exchange with fans following the game and seemed genuinely miffed about the hometown fans turning on the team.“When our crowd cheers for us, we thrive off them,” he said Sunday. “You know, we hear them when they boo. We don’t necessarily like it. I don’t think that’s productive for anybody. When they cheer for us and we’ve got them rolling, we love it.”The coach said after reviewing his behavior, he felt he needed to apologize.Sirianni had also said Sunday that his players encouraged him to be himself and that they needed him to show his energy and attitude. This, of course, was not the first time Sirianni had an exchange with the fans. But it’s (about) having a discernment of when to do that. I wish there was a playbook on stuff like that. It would make the job a little easier to do. You got to have the discernment and the wisdom when to do it.“As I reflect on it, it’s about ‘Are you coaching your butt off throughout the week and throughout the game?’ " Sirianni said. “Are you motivating and pushing the right buttons? It’s not necessarily motivating them. It’s about wiring guys in the right way ... wiring your habits. And it’s just celebrating with them because that’s some of the best things you can have in this game and some of the best memories I have of this game.
