Are you ready for the Paris Olympics?

While the word awaits the July 26 start of the festivities in France, South Jersey track and field athletes have two unique opportunities to polish their skills.

The On the Road Track & Field World Tour Summer Camp will make appearances at Pennsauken High School on July 20-21 and in Atlantic City on July 27-28.

The Pennsauken event, held in the track and field stadium that most recently held the 2024 NJSIAA Meet of Champions, is the 32nd annual On the Road event. The Beach Vault, which is held one the beach in Atlantic City is the 16th edition.

The On the Road Summer Camp marks a milestone in the event and its founder Mike Pascuzzo.

“This is our 32nd year for the camp, but it’s our first year back with the full camp since 2019,” Pascuzzo said. “When COVID hit, many of the schools weren’t renting their facilities for the summer. We had to curtail the full camp and we just did pole vault and high jump at our facilities in Southampton. This is the first year that we're back in full force. We're at Pennsauken High School, which you know, is a beautiful facility.”

The On the Road camps feature former Olympic champions, world champions and other world class coaches. The Pennsauken Camp is close to capacity but there are still spots available for athletes that are interested in improving their track and field skills. Visit verticaladventures.org for more information on both events.

The Beach Vault began in Seaside Heights during the heyday of the cult show Jersey Shore. It has grown into one of the most entertaining events of the summer, sponsored by, among others, the Atlantic City Sport Commission and Caesars Casino.

With great competition, a spectacular setting and charismatic athletes on hand, there will be no shortage of drama.

“It's a really fun event,” Pascuzzo said. “I kind of describe it as the X Games meets track and field. We have pole vault on the beach. We've hosted Olympic gold medalists Jen Shore and Katie Moon. We've had like seven or eight Olympians compete and win the event. We will have several all Americans. It's just really super fun. It's like more ‘sports-tainment’ than a real competition.”
