WATT Fuel Cell Corp., a manufacturer and developer of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) stacks and systems that operate on readily available fuels, recently expanded its manufacturing plant and headquarters in Mt. Pleasant.

Expansion makes the site the most advanced tubular SOFC manufacturing facility in the world.

“WATT has been proud to call Mt. Pleasant home since 2014,” Caine Finnerty, WATT CEO and founder, said. “With WATT’s recent manufacturing expansion and increased market demand, continued growth for the organization and the community are on the horizon.”

SOFCs operate on natural gas, propane and other common fuels and can be paired with renewable power and energy storage via WATT’s innovative hybrid power management system.

The company is focused on distributed energy resources that are commercially and environmentally responsible to fuel its growth. It expects to add skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs as market demand grows.

Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward (R- Westmoreland County) visited the facility Tuesday.

“Pennsylvania is an energy rich state with room for every kind of energy, and we need to unleash that energy potential,” Ward said. “WATT Fuel Cell is helping Pennsylvania lead the way through innovation not only in energy but manufacturing by combining natural gas power generation with solar and energy storage to provide Americans with the resiliency our country needs to be more secure.”
