Dining in the City of Brotherly Love: 10 Philadelphia Restaurants to Try

    2023-11-14

Philadelphia, a city rich in history and culture, also boasts a vibrant food scene. In this post, we're featuring ten restaurants that embody the city's culinary spirit.

    1. Buddakan

Buddakan, an East Asian Fusion Cuisine spot, is a must-visit in Old City. The food is consistently delicious, with the calamari salad and lamb chops being standout dishes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a cool Buddha statue adding to the ambiance. The staff is accommodating and friendly, making every visit enjoyable. They even offer great deals during restaurant week, serving up generous portions that will leave you satisfied. Just a heads up, it can get crowded quickly, so be prepared for a lively dining experience!

    2. JiangNan Philadelphia

Had an amazing experience at JiangNan Philadelphia! The Southern Chinese Cuisine was flavorful and beautifully presented. The ambiance was modern and chic, perfect for a special date or event. First time tasting truffles and they nailed it! The service was top-notch, although a bit casual for the setting. They also had a unique and interesting cocktail menu. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes!

    3. EMei

Had a mixed experience at EMei, a Sichuan Cuisine restaurant. The cold starter beef and tripe were nicely seasoned, and the main eggplant was a hit. However, the cumin lamb was a bit dry. The hot and sour soup was a perfect blend of spice and tang, and the Mapo Tofu was packed with flavor. The restaurant's ambiance was a bit sterile and the music choice was odd. Ordering is done via your phone, which can be a turnoff for some. Despite some minor issues, the food was impressive and I'm eager to return to try more dishes.

    4. Ochatto

I recently visited Ochatto, a Japanese Cuisine restaurant, and I must say, it was quite an experience. The service was top-notch, and the food came out super fast. I tried the short ribs udon soup, and the beef broth was simply amazing. The sushi was also good, and the strawberry smoothie was the perfect finish to the meal. The ambiance was calming with a cool vibe, thanks to the bamboo partitions and localized lighting. However, it can get a bit loud on a busy night. While the sushi rolls were just okay, the overall experience was worth it.

    5. Sake Mian

Had a mixed experience at Sake Mian. The parking was a bit tricky, but the decor and ambiance were spot on. The steak kabab was a bit too spicy and the fried popcorn chicken looked unappetizing. However, the miso soup was a lifesaver. The chicken katsu ramen was decent, but the chicken was slightly dry. The bento box had a good fried sweet potato, but the fried mushroom and broccoli were too greasy. The Philadelphia rolls were a bit off-color. The drinks were refreshing and helped wash down the food. The server was nice and forward. On another visit, the sushi was divine and the service was impeccable. The food was fresh and savory. The Phoenix Green Tea and the Lobster City Signature Roll were to die for. The Mala Beef Ramen was delicious and spicy. The grilled oysters and sashimi sampler were must-tries. The Saki fried rice was amazing. Definitely a place to revisit.

    6. Poke Burri / Lifting Noodles Ramen

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4K8tGj_0pfPFDKO00

Poke Burri / Lifting Noodles Ramen is a must-try for Japanese Bento lovers. Their takeout is consistently delicious, especially the customized salmon poke ball. They offer some unique items like sushi donuts and corndogs, which are both good and different. The sushi sandwich and donut are mainly rice-based, with a generous amount of mayo. If you're not a fan of spicy mayo, don't forget to request them to take it off. Their poke pizza and donut are mind-blowing and fresh. It's a fast food sushi place, but the quality and flavor are top-notch.

    7. JJ Thai Cuisine

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=1pllQm_0pfPFDKO00

Had an amazing time at JJ Thai Cuisine in the charming Rittenhouse area of Philadelphia. This isn't your ordinary Thai spot, it's French-inspired with a creative Southeast Asian twist. The dishes are skillfully prepared with fresh ingredients and a blend of flavors that are simply out of this world. The green and red curries are a must-try, and the Pad Thai is a perfect balance of flavors. The crispy duck salad is a game-changer. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly and efficient. And the best part? It's BYOB. Can't wait to go back!

    8. Matcha Panda Cafe

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4PopGO_0pfPFDKO00

If you're a matcha lover like me, Matcha Panda Cafe is a must-visit! Their signature matcha desserts are a dream come true. I tried their matcha ice cream cup and roasted green tea, and it was divine. The matcha flavor was just right, not too overpowering. The cafe's green decor perfectly complements their matcha pastries and drinks. I also tried their crepe cake, which was thin, light, and packed with flavor. And let's not forget about their black sesame soft serve. It's a matcha haven, folks!

    9. CHICHA San Chen

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=2Ee30k_0pfPFDKO00

Stepping into CHICHA San Chen, I was immediately struck by the aroma of fresh tea leaves. This popular tea shop is known for its meticulous handcrafted drinks, each one curated to perfection. I was intrigued by their use of thermometers after steeping, a testament to their dedication. I tried the Honey Osmanthus with full sugar and normal ice, a strong flavor that didn't disappoint. Despite the bustling business, the service was quick. The place had a clean, aesthetic vibe, perfect for a casual hangout or a quiet reading spot. While it's a bit different from other bubble tea shops, it's definitely worth a visit for any tea lover.

    10. Snow Ice & Hot Dessert

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=1p9dxd_0pfPFDKO00

Stumbled upon Snow Ice & Hot Dessert, a gem in Philly's Chinatown, boasting a variety of desserts from Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. The Taiwanese shaved ice is a must-try! The place has a spacious dining area, perfect for hanging out with friends. However, it can get a bit noisy due to the open kitchen. The staff seemed a bit indifferent, but don't let that deter you. The desserts are worth it! Just a heads up, it's not the best spot for a quiet date. But if you're craving for some Asian desserts, this is the place to be!
