Wrestling A 900-Pound Bear At Your Local Outdoor Show Is Just One More Reason The ’90s Were Awesome

Simpler times. Remember back in the '90s when everything seemed like it was more relaxed? Prices were lower, country music was better, and you could wrestle bears at your local farm show. Yeah, you heard me. If you wanted to tussle with a bear in an organized event, you could do so. Good luck finding that kind of once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in today's hypersensitive society. In 1992, these people heard about the bear wrestling event at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and took advantage of it. WGAL, a news station in Pennsylvania, recently shared the stunning footage after they uncovered it in their archives. The video has since made its rounds on social media, probably because it just seems so absurd and idiotically dangerous to wrestle a bear... for fun? The 900-pound wrestling bear was quite the competitor back in the day, as the news station described in the vintage footage's caption:
"The Canadian black bear, named Caesar, was not muzzled or declawed. And according to our report from 1992, he didn't like to lose. In fact, in 18,000 matches, Caesar had only ever lost 10 times." So not only did people willingly get into the ring with a wild animal, they got into the ring with the bear that was really good at wrestling. Those winning percentages are almost unfathomable, though when you remember it's a 900-pound bear we're talking about, I guess it's easier to digest. As you click on the play button below, prepare to time travel to a time of danger, recklessness, and laissez-faire attitudes - the 1990s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1I0od5PVNQ Probably one of the wildest things I've ever seen. You have to think this above event inspired the scene in the cult classic comedy
Semi-Pro , which in my opinion is one of the most underrated movies of all time. Will Ferrell as an owner, coach, and star player of a middling ABA basketball team in the 1970s is an all-time premise, and it included a bear wrestling scene that is laugh-out-loud funny. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDH6Hg-0iUg P.S. - If you were wondering, "Whatever happened to Caesar the Wrestling bear?" just try to take a guess. Eventually, the bear attacked and killed someone, and it was euthanized. Sorry to be a "Debbie Downer," but that's part of the story I guess. It's also why I buried that fact all the way down here , so not to ruin the fun that we all got to have above...
